From Bankers to Ranchers
We are Nelson and Peggy Reininger. Born and raised in California, we lived and worked in Tempe, Arizona for 22 years before settling into our current home in beautiful Salida, Colorado, in the Heart of the Rockies. We love the peaceful ranch lifestyle and have a passion for our alpacas.
Having spent much of our adult life in the big-city corporate world as bankers, why alpacas you might ask?
We decided we wanted to spend our time in a more relaxed way, with enough activity to keep us off the couch and with enough space to enjoy a slower-paced country lifestyle.
Starting this journey in 2008, we learned about and spent time with alpacas and alpaca ranchers while we worked towards settling full time in the small town of Salida, CO, with a 12 acre ranch property big enough to be home to our small herd of alpacas and a couple of awesome livestock guardian dogs.
One thing we know for sure: Although alpacas may be easy to care for, it is a continual learning process, and we could not do it without the support of the friends and mentors we’ve met along the way. We are forever grateful to those who have taught us about these wonderful creatures and helped us out at times when we didn’t quite know what to do.
